The Book Awards Reading Challenge II
Which is
here
.
Just (just?) read ten award-winners from August 1 2008-May 31 2009. Considering I haven't read ten books I didn't have to since I started college, this should be interesting. :D (I've been meaning to read most of these for aaaages.)

My list:
English Passengers - Matthew Kneale (Costa/Whitbread)
Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie (Booker Prize)
The Chatham School Affair - Thomas H. Cook (Edgar Award)
To Say Nothing of the Dog: Or How We Found the Bishop's Bird Stump at Last - Connie Willis (Hugo Award)
American Gods - Neal Gaiman (Nebula Award)
Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel - Susanna Clarke (World Fantasy Award)
The Road - Cormac McCarthy (Pulitzer Prize)
The Westing Game - Ellen Raskin (Newbery Award)
Gone With the Wind - Margaret Mitchell (Pulitzer Prize)
The Thirteenth Tale - Diane Setterfield (Alex Award)

I read The Westing Game years and years ago, and in the meantime have forgotten the ending. :) I'm super excited to reread, because all I remember about it is that I thought it was the best thing I'd ever read when I first read it! :D

I read it when I was like ... twelve, I think, and I reread it agian about a month ago, and fell in love with it. I do adore Turtle!

I can't really connect with anything by Rushdie. I read The Satanic Verses because of its cultural importance, but I'm not motivated to go further with him.

American Gods is very, very good. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel was a disappointment. Too much faux Dickensian style and not enough wit. Gone With the Wind titillated me when I was about 13, but I haven't read it since.

The rest I haven't read, but I'm planning on starting The Road soon.

Very interesting challenge, though!

That's too bad about Jonathan Strange... :( I've actually had the book for a while, started it, and put it down after maybe 75 pages. I was hoping it'd pick up more later. Guess not. Boo.

I can't believe you've never read Gone With the Wind! It's great.

I can't believe I've never read it either! I love the movie... but I think the length of the book scared me away. XD
